John Yau

John Yau is Professor of Critical Studies at Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers University), the publisher of Black Square Editions, and regular contributor to the online magazine, Hyperallergic Weekend, which he helped start. His latest books include Further Adventures in Monochrome (Copper Canyon Press, 2012) and A Thing Among Things: The Art of Jasper Johns (D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers, 2008).  He is the author of monographs and catalogs on Lois Dodd, Joan Mitchell, Richard Artschwager, James Siena, Jay DeFeo, Larry Rivers, Helen Frankenthaler, Catherine Murphy and many others. His collaborations with artists can be found in the collections of Art Institute, Chicago, IL Museum of Modern Art, New York, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, New York, Bonn Kunstmuseum, Bonn, Germany, and Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Germany.

He has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Brooklyn College (Class of 1978), and grants and awards from the Warhol Foundation, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts and the Foundation for Contemporary Art.
